Salt Spring Island, British Columbia

This unique, faceted dome structure will feature prefabricated stressed skin panels forming the roof with internal, curved glulam timber elements. The entire structure, which includes two occupied levels and will be 80ft in diameter and over 30ft tall, will rest on a compact footing system that is 13' across and anchored to the rocky bluff on which the domespace will sit.  In addition to the unique superstructure geometry, this single family residence will be built to the Passive House standard and will be able to rotate 300 degrees to adjust the view and solar loading. This project features an international team that includes a Canada-based client and  a prefabrication team and design engineer, Artemis Ingenieur, located in France. Workshop Engineers is lead structural engineer and the Engineer of Record.
